Bambu was designed by architect Robert Hartley in the early 1960s as a unique melding of West Indies architecture and Italian Venetian style. Its Palladian arches, dramatic central pool, Italian sculptures, and breathtaking view make it one of the most photographed homes in this collection. In 1974, images of Bambu appeared in Slim Aaron’s A Wonderful Time: An Intimate Portrait of the Good Life
Multiple dining areas take advantage of the spaciousness and vast views of this special property. Breakfast at the river is a marvelous way to start the day. Lunches on the covered garden terrace overlooking Montego Bay, and dinner in the gazebo feature one of the most beautiful nighttime light shows in the world.
Today its modern comforts and infrastructure mesh with Bambu’s original Euro charm and glamour. As designer Charles Faudree wrote when it was featured on the cover of Veranda magazine, Bambu is the “….blending Old World elegance with New World comforts.”
Notable also are Bambu's sprawling grounds and gardens. Headed by talented Sam, the gardeners have created a lush and lavish tropical paradise, with natural stone pathways that wind through gardens to unexpected terraces for private quiet times.
With handicap access in mind, a separate entrance designed especially for guests in wheelchairs features a ramp to a level entrance to the villa, avoiding all stairs. The Bambu pool features a broad 4" deep wheelchair platform as well. This shallow water platform is also a thoughtful, safe pool area for toddlers.
If you've left your pets at home while you're on vacation, be advised that Bambu is home to a couple of affectionate dogs! At your preference, they may be allowed to roam the grounds and come in to play with the guests or be kept in their large, open-air kennel.
Accommodations
Master Bedroom - 500 sq ft + 130 sq ft Dressing Room and Office
High king-size four-poster bed. Two separate Travertine marble his 'n' her bathrooms feature double shower heads in each. From the bedroom, French doors open to a 26' covered verandah with a breathtaking view of the sea and the distant town of Montego Bay. The Master Suite is quite private from the rest of the villa. Both showers are handicap accessible.
Bedroom 2
High king-size bed. Travertine marble en-suite bathroom with double sinks and spacious walk-in shower. French doors open directly onto the south poolside terrace. Bedroom 2 can be considered the second Master.
Children's Bunk Room
Two pairs of child-size beds, pink and white, and very cute. The single door can remain bolted and locked to prevent unsupervised access to the pool terrace. A pass-through in the children's bathroom leads to Bedroom 3 next door, creating a connecting parent-child suite. The children’s room is suitable for children up to 12 years old only.

King-size bed. The en-suite Travertine marble bathroom connects to the Children's Bunk Room. Opens to the pool terrace.
Bedroom 4
Two queen-size beds. En-suite Travertine marble and has a spacious walk-in shower.

Tryall Membership
All guests of Bambu must pay a resort entry fee of US$34 per person per day plus a 15% tax to have access to the resort amenities at the Tryall Club. Children 13-15 years of age pay a discounted rate of 50% off plus 15% tax and children 12 & under are complimentary.
After paying the Temporary Membership Fee, members may use most Club facilities at no charge except the tennis shop, ball boys, bar & restaurant, spa, grocery, motorized water sports, nanny services, and golf. Complimentary amenities include the beach, non-motorized water sports, tennis, the excellent gym, the Hummingbird Kids Club, Great House afternoon tea, the Manager's Cocktail Party, and various special events.
Please note: Tryall Club membership is guaranteed for guests traveling through November 30, 2024. There may be occasions when some or all the facilities of the hotel may be closed for membership guest services due to a private hotel event. The Tryall Club reserves the right to change or alter its membership packages with no advance notice.

Where do we even start? We love the staff. They have been super kind and accommodating. They always went out of their way to be helpful and flexible. They provided us with everything we needed, when needed. Our rooms were always clean. Jackie is an AMAZING cook! Davian was so helpful, kind, and great at his job. Ivan was HILLARIOUS, attentive and warm/welcoming. The property was well kept and beautiful.

We did not expect them to wash & launder our clothes as well, but what a wonderful surprise to come back to from excursions all day! This property is spectacular!! The views, the lush vegetation, the elegant, yet whimsical decor is nothing short of amazing. Each room provides a unique view, luxurious breeze and an opportunity for lounging, eating, sleeping, socializing or swimming. Our biggest dilemma was which of the many rooms to utilize. Jackie, our house manager and cook, delighted us with meals prepared with love and attention to our individual tastes. Our butler Del Roy presented each meal on beautifully set tables overflowing with freshly cut flowers from the gorgeous and vast grounds. He suggested outings and day trips that allowed us a unique experience on the Island. The driver Benjie was available to drive us anywhere on the Island so that we could feel save and comfortable at all times. We slept soundly each night in our air-conditioned suites after enjoying our full days on the Island. Nora, thank you for making this elegant, yet especially warm villa available for us to experience!
