Nestled on its own sandy beach by the blue waters of Discovery Bay, A Summer Place is a spacious and playful family home. The design is of typical Caribbean gingerbread style with hand-carved fretwork trimming the length of the house. The large open-plan living room features an entertainment center with a 30" DSS television, VCR, and, an assortment of videos for all ages. French doors open from the living room to a 1,500-square-foot furnished verandah. Charmingly draped with beautiful Thunbergia blossoms, the verandah is the heart of this happy home. On this covered terrace, guests can read, play games, snooze, and watch hummingbirds feed on the flowers or just take in the magnificent beauty all around ... while being quite near the action at the private pool and beach.
All around are mesmerizing panoramas of azure water and lush green hills. Multicolored bougainvillea, hibiscus, sea grape, almond, ginger lilies, and coconut adorn the manicured grounds. A large side-yard invites playful children to romp to their hearts' content.
Mouth-watering home-cooked meals include Jamaican, American, and Continental specialties. Memorable meals are served on the terrace or in the more formal dining area on a 250-year-old family heirloom table that seats 14. On special occasions, dinner is served in the pool gazebo or in the main gazebo at the end of the jetty. The waterfront gazebo is also a favorite spot for massages, cocktails, and watching glorious sunsets across the bay.
From the pool terrace, it's only a few steps onto the 100' white sand beach. Guests are invited to use the snorkeling equipment, sea kayaks, and paddle boards for great fun on the beautiful water here.
If you ever wish to leave A Summer Place during your vacation, colorful Ocho Rios is just 25 minutes east of Discovery Bay.

A Summer Place on the Beach Reviews

Thank you for making my 40th birthday experience one to remember! From beginning to end - I was treated with the best level of service and professionalism. Chef Kerri, Mary and Roy were the best! My guests were amazed and enjoyed their experience as well.

The staff is probably the best part. You have a chef, two butlers, two house-maids, and two gardeners. The house-maids keep things extremely clean and also do laundry daily. The two butlers are awesome and pretty much the hardest workers in the house. They set your tables for breakfast, lunch, dinner, make you drinks, and clean up. The chef is great and will cook some amazing Jamaican food for you. The staff is super friendly and very jolly and always helpful even in the wee hours of the night.

While the place is amazing, the beach, the property with so many acreage and fruit trees, the amenities, and the rooms. It was the staff that made us feel at home and we never wanted the vacation to end. Mailynn, our cook and head of house, has a fitting title, when we say that lady can cook up a storm, it is an understatement to what she is truly capable of and how she brought our menu to life and lived up to the expectation that food should be great! She was friendly yet quiet and very personable and approachable. Mailynn kept herself out of sight while she made the most delectable dishes for our family. She kept the heart of our vacation beating while never missing a beat with her daily dishes. She was always smiling, always on point and always went above and beyond! Her meals never disappointed us and believe me when I say we had some picky eaters among the 16 of us. It is no easy feat to keep us all happy with food but Mailynn worked her magic!
Roy and Richie, the butler and bartender kept us laughing while they delivered superb customer service, always going above and beyond, and always with a smile in the most professional manner. If we went to bed at 2 A.M, they were up serving us until the last man went to bed. These two gentlemen worked in sync with Mailynn. They were a well-oiled machine that kept the food and drinks coming.
Noreen and Winsome kept our rooms fresh and clean daily and ensured our laundry was done so we wouldn’t have to bring home dirty clothes. Robert and Phillip would get us coconuts and other fruits from the property and ensured all the water gears were stored for our use the next day. They kept the pool and the grounds clean each day for our enjoyment. These 7 people, who became our family for the 7 days we were there, are the ones who made our stay memorable, enjoyable, fun, relaxing and carefree! They made sure we were warm and well fed.
On our last night, Audrey, the property manager, helped us arrange a surprise early birthday celebration for our mom. Roy and Richie wore the themed color and were decked out in their suspenders and red bow ties along with the decorations that they provided to help make our mom feel even more special. These are the great touches that the villa provides and is a true testimony to the connection the owners have with their guests especially in this very intimate and private setting. My gratitude to Audrey for arranging this for us!
Upon leaving the villa, every member of staff came out to bid us goodbye and a safe journey. So our heartfelt gratitude to Mailynn, Roy, Richie, Robert, Phillip, Noreen and Winsome for making our trip one of the most memorable experiences my entire family has had. We will be back! because of your hospitality and exceptional above and beyond service! It truly felt like home! And we can’t thank you enough for making us feel like we were the only ones in the world that mattered.
Trisha and Lorna
There were others, too who provided many services such as Marc and Janette and others offering a little extra help at crunch times. They were all appreciated by all the members of our family who were enjoying the vacation of a lifetime.
And for the cook - what can I say. What a jewel she is! She served us seven days and nights of the most wonderful meals of our lifetimes. There were many selections at each meal so that each one could have a feast at each meal. She was prepared for every taste and she introduced us to several delicacies that we hadn't tried before. We were reluctant even to leave the property because the meals were so good. I wanted to kidnap her and bring her home with us.
Yvette, you were so right about everything you told us, and we want to thank you many times over for all of your counsel and advice on this trip. And if you can pass on a word to the owners of the property, please let them know how much we loved their house and staff and how grateful we are that they let us have a wonderful family vacation at their summer home.
